Whitianga, Coromandel Peninsula, New Zealand

We drove to the parking lot for the Cathedral Cove.  I took these photos from the scenic overlook.  What a view!

We saw the boat below and knew we had to do that.
I called the Hahei Explorer and we were on the water within 30 minutes.  Woohoooo!!!

This drawing identifies the islands below

This map shows the path our boat took

Launching the boat

Heading out from Hahei Beach with our captain and two other girls, both doctors.

Cathedral Cove

Cathedral Cove, shown here, and Champage Bay were two of the film locations for The film Narnia.

The first cave we entered was amazing.  We kept saying, "Lael would love this!"
She is a geologist and the markings on the rocks were fantastic.

Every cave we entered was completely different than the previous cave, but for the life of me, I can't identify which one each is.

Yup, I'm in a cave and it's pretty dark in here!

Our captain pointed out how easily the lava flow lines are seen here.
The seaweed and kelp attached to the bottoms of the rocks looked like old men's beards to me.

Crystal clear water.  Stunning!

All too soon it was time to head for shore.

We saw lots of tractors, like this one, in town and everyone seems to have a boat.
This is a great place!
