Blockhouse Bay, New Zealand
We decided to explore the neighborhood on our first morning in New Zealand. The townhouse is in a residential area, so we took the car into the village. I realized later, we could have walked.
. Our first stop was the beach - a short drive or a long walk from the house.
There were two boys feeding the ducks and then chasing them. Boys are the same all over the world and Kiwis (people from New Zealand) are no different.
Every little village in Australia had a park with toilets, a BBQ and a pic-nic table.
It seems it is the same in New Zealand.
The trees are huge here.
While we are here, we have the use of John and Anne's Honda CRV.
Our next stop was the library. It took quite a while to figure out how to use the internet at the library, but I finally got our cruise itinerary on the screen ready to print. Russ went to the librarian to pay for the printing and his New Zealand ANZ Travel Card would not work. Not only did I not get my prints, we had no New Zealand cash to pay for anything else. Since it was Sunday, we'd have to get it sorted out with the bank tomorrow.
This poster is in the library.
I like the library building. It is nicely designed and really built to last.
This historic house and a walking trail are across the yard from the library.
Our final stop was Vodafone.
We found out that the nearest store was in the St. Luke's Mall, so we headed over. We got lost on our way but luckily arrived before they closed. We purchased a New Zealand SIM card and some prepaid data and cell time.
I tried to check my aol email on my cell phone when we got home. It did not work...
There's always some bumps in the road when we arrive in a new country, like the cell phone, internet and bank card not working. It is very frustrating, but I'm sure we'll have it all figured out soon :)
