Checking Out the Local Village

September 18, 2014
Sandringham, Australia

We went to the Library and got a library card.  The librarian was incredibly helpful and they have all the daily papers for Russ to read.

We checked out the liquor store prices.  Yellowtail wine costs more in Australia than at home - AU $10 on sale vs US $5 on sale.  Wine, liquor and cigarettes are very expensive here.  A pack of cigarettes costs AU $23!

We went to the local grocery store, Coles, and looked around.  The food prices in Australia are very high compared to the USA.  The fruit and veges are especially expensive.

That made us hungry, so we stopped for lunch at Cuppa Cottage Tea Room, recommended by Malcom.

The dining area could easily be in Wilton Manors, especially with the three rainbow colored chandeliers!

I had salmon and Camembert pie with salad and chutney.  I could not identify what was dressing the salad but it was luscious!  Isn't the tea pot bowl holding the chutney adorable!

Russ had a toasted ham and cheese sandwich cut into cute little triangles, just like a proper tea shop should!

Cappuccino and earl grey tea to complete the perfect meal :)
