Thinking about saying Goodbye to Espy and Macey

October 18, 2014
Saturday Morning

I'm at the kitchen table and I feel like I'm going to cry.  I just stood holding two full dog dishes outside for the pups and realized there's just one more morning to feed them and then it's over.  I really love these two.

Then Espy walks in, opening the door with a rush of cold air and breaks the moment...walks out...I shut the door...then she walks in...and walks out...then Macy walks in...I shut the door, not closing it completely so that Espy can get back in...Espy barks at something in the yard....and walks back in...Macy walks out...Espy walks out...I shut, but don't close the door...these two dogs have me so well trained it is unbelievable.

I woke up early, came downstairs and made coffee.  It's kind of entertaining to see sleepy Espy walk out of the shed toward the kitchen door.  I think it makes her crazy when I wake up before her.  But she also realizes she has me all to herself.  She loves to have me sit in the big leather recliner and rub her belly before Macy wakes up.

After Macy wakes up, it doesn't take her long to nudge her way onto my lap too.  I try to push her away, because I know Espy will not share a lap.  Macy succeeds, and soon Espy retreats to her bed.  I have got to admit that there is not much better than having Macy on my lap.  She is like a one hundred percent content boneless chicken.  It is practically impossible to reach for my coffee.  Not that I'm so worried that she will be disturbed, but somehow she makes herself very heavy.  I remember that. Carol's schnauzers are able to do this when they are in their comfort zone on your lap.  Ahhhh, I love a warm dog on my lap on a cold morning.

Espy has been in and out a couple more times, so I just shut and closed the door.  Espy is licking the floor.  It's an odd habit she has.  Macey Is in her dog bed.

I won't miss a lot of things, especially the hair everywhere.  It doesn't matter if you brush them and vacuume the floor.  They shed.  They she'd a lot.  I packed a lot of black, clothes to simplify my wardrobe. I am so happy I also packed a big lint roller, that works well on dog hair removal.  I still leave the house hairy most of the time.

I won't miss picking up poo.  What goes in must come out, but I still dislike poo pick up, especially the warm steamy ones Espy deposits at the dog park.  Macy kindly refrains from leaving her little gifts anywhere but the back hard.  What a good girl!

I won't miss getting my arm ripped off when Espy sees or hears something on a walk and has to lunge at it.  I also won't miss the very high pitched bark Espy can make when she's excited.  It is ear splitting.

I won't miss the evil twins at the dog park.  Two old German shepherds that are totally unpredictable and their owner who keeps them off the leash, clueless about how many dogs they terrorize.

I will miss the dog park in general.  I love the huge variety of dogs playing together.  I love how each dog has a different way of chasing a ball.  I especially love watching Espy chase the ball.  She is so fast and elegant to watch when she runs.  It is simply incredible to watch her catch a ball in mid air.  And she has all her humans well trained to retrieve the ball enabling us to get some exercise :). Four is the record so far for ball returns.  It happened only once and we celebrated!

I love watching them eat.  They both inhale their kibbles, but take a moment with the raw egg in their morning meal.  It's fun to watch them eat the shell.  The noise of crunching is great.

I love to watch Macey smell things.  If she is not sleeping, she is sniffing.  But every so often she smells a special scent.  She puts her nose up in the air and you can see in her eyes that she's thinking.  Her highly sensitive nose is processing what the scent is.  It's amazing.

It's time to start packing, so I'd better wake up Russ and get going.

Oh, there goes the happy beagle howl.  Russ is up and the pups are excited.  Espy need to lick him good morning and Macy needs to jump and roar her happiness.  He's the Big Dog and I think he loves them as much as I do :)

  1. You can borrow Lexie anytime. She is not a snuggler, but she loves the dog park and chasing after a ball. ☺
