Koala Hugs, Adelaide, Australia

October 23, 2014
Cleland Wildlife Sanctuary

This is Isaac.  He arrived at Cleland as an orphaned joey requiring constant care to stay alive.  He formed a strong bond with his keeper.  He is used to being handled and fed by humans.

Isaac's fur is very thick and plush and he is an excellent hugger!  Holding a koala was on my bucket list, so I am ecstatic :)

Here at Cleland you are able to feed and pet the animals.  They have special food for you to use.  I'm amazed that all the animals aren't fat!

I was second in line.  Woo hoo!!!  They limit the amount of people that can hold the koalas by charging extra for the experience.  It's worth every penny!

Koalas are only awake for about 4 hours every day.  They spend most of the 4 hours eating.
The koala trainer provided nice, fresh eucalyptus leaves for Isaac.

Russ did a great job photographing us :)

His fur is unbelievably soft.  He is bigger and heavier than I expected.
At one point I put my nose in his fur and just nuzzled.  Aahhhh :)

Koala kisses :)
