Sandringham, Australia
We were sitting on the front porch on Monday, playing with the dogs, when Margie came by. She's the Vicar's wife. We chatted and she invited us to dinner Thusday night.
I was surprised when we arrived that it was a dinner party for eight! Margie and Philip introduced us to some of their friends. Nigel is pretty quiet. He a doctor and his wife was out of town. Peggy's husband, a pastor, had passed away just 2 months prior. She is best friends with Margie. Ray and his wife completed the group. Ray is an oil man and likes to chat.
We all shared travel stories and Peggy had some great ones. She and her husband purchased a gullwing (sp?) motorcycle and traveled across the USA. Philip and Margie lived in Tanzania for 6 years. Ray travels for work and has been around the world.
We had quite a few chuckles about American -vs- Aussie English. Nigel announced that we should enjoy the assorted cheese, crackers, nuts, pate and stuffed peppers because he was not serving an entree. I commented that it was a good thing that Russ and I just learned that in Australia the entree is the 1st course and the main is the 2nd course, otherwise I might have polished off all the nibbles on the coffee table thinking it was all we would have to eat!
Altogether it was a very enjoyable evening with good wine, tasty food and new acquaintances :)
